    Mixing it Up in 2020

Alana from Swoon Events gives us the scoop on what’s up and coming in wedding trends this year

Bolder use of colour and mixing textures. We are seeing brides moving away from traditional colour palettes and incorporating various shades of red, fuschia, even peaches and browns! Dried floral elements are also huge, like grass, dried flowers and leaves, which add texture and a more modern look to bouquets and centerpieces. Velvet linens in various colours are also a big hit right now.

Wedding gowns are incorporating texture as well. We’re seeing a lot of 3D applique like flowers, replacing more traditional lace. Sleeves are continuing to be a big hit, but this year, we are seeing big, voluminous sleeves in sheer fabrics. Dresses have become less form fitting and more free flowing, taking on vibes from the 70’s & 80’s, with feminime modernity added.

Nature is also at the core of many wedding trends. Fruit has been popular to decorate tablescapes or added into floral arrangements and centrepieces. Wildflowers, including dried elements as mentioned above, are bringing many weddings back to the roots of nature, as well as impressive botanical elements and structures.

Pantone Colour of The Year: I Got The Blues

Paulina from Fête Floral + Events provides some tips on how to continue to have optimism through this turbulent time and beautifully incorporate the Pantone Colour of the Year

It’s one of those shades that has so many tones; it’s melancholy yet boundless, confident, and it has hopeful optimism – it’s no wonder it’s the 2020 Colour of the Year.  It’s actually what we need right now in such a turbulent time.  We are all anticipating what comes next.

Here’s some fun ideas on how to infuse the colour blue into your wedding palette.

Flowers:  Blue hydrangea, tweedia, delphinium or anemones

Décor:  For most couples, deep blue linens may be slightly too dark for all the tables at a reception, but adding a pop with blue napkins can tie in the colour with just the right amount.

Cocktails:  Blue Alize or Curacao infused martinis or classic cocktails like the Blue Lagoon

Stationary:  The easiest way to infuse a little blue into your theme is through stationary.

Haberdashery:  The Groom deserves a moment to shine too!  A dramatic bow tie in a feathered, royal blue adds an unexpected twist to an otherwise classic suit.
